Battn attacked enemy at 5.30 a.m.

In the Electoral Roll of 1919 his mother Louisa and a Henry Alexander N Medd were living at Sunnyside, Fetcham and his widow Hilda was living at Laburnum Cottage, Fetcham. That could explain why Alfred is on the Fetcham War Memorial. At the time of his War Graves record, his widow Hilda was resident at 2A, Oxford and Cambridge Mansions, London.

In an interview with his son David in 1998, David recalled that his grandfather, Peter, was a theologian at University College Oxford, a Tractarian, a Rector of Barnes Church and of North Cerney. Grandmother Louisa Medd moved to Fetcham where David spent holidays.
