Southey Hall

The original 'Southey Hall Prep School'  in Worthing up to 1924.  After Mr. Fussell
moved his school to Bookham this building became an hotel and then
in more recent years a block of flats.

It is now called  'Dolphin Court' and offers 'Sheltered Accommodation'.

When it closed in 1954 Southey Hall, Bookham  was
amalgamated with Little Abbey School, Burghclere, Newbury.

Dr  M.A. Taylor has written to me about Abbey School. He says:  "I attended
Little Abbey from 1965 to 1971 where I was taught French by Mr. Locke.
In 1965 the school moved from Burghclere to Langley Court between Liss and
Liphook.  In 1974 the school ran into financial problems and closed
abruptly around 1973/74".

He also says that the above photograph is of Little Abbey School, Langley Court..

Mr. Chris Mackie wrote to me to say: :"Mr. Cameron was Head at Little Abbey.
I'm a bit hazy with dates but I would think that I started in Southey Hall in
1954/55 and I left Little Abbey in 1958.I did go back to Little Abbey in 1978,
and although the grounds remained the same the building had been leveled.
The person living in the Gatehouse told me that it had fallen into disrepair
and had been razed to the ground.
(It wasn't in great shape when I was there)."
