MICKLEHAM WAR MEMORIALS
Introduction

This website was set up in 2009 by Frank Haslam on behalf of the Leatherhead & District Local History Society to generate interest in the names on the Mickleham War Memorial - to change them from inscriptions to remembered people.

The War Memorial Cross is in the churchyard of the Parish Church of St Michael's Mickleham. Erected in 1920, it has panels commemorating those who died in the Great War and was updated for those of WWII. Some names were traced on the CWGC database. Others were traced but seemed to have no obvious connection with Mickleham. Ian Whitlock and Stan Spence assisted on some names.

Lesley Wood, whose grandfather Percy Bodman is named on the War Memorial, got in touch in 2011. At that time Percy was not in the CWGC database. Lesley eventually succeeded in getting that omission rectified.

The Mickleham & Westhumble Local History Group had an initial meeting in November 2012 and formed a committee in March 2013. One of their first projects was to complete research on the War Memorial.

This they achieved splendidly in 2016. A booklet has been produced which can be seen via this link:
It is searchable. They kindly acknowledge the assistance provided by the original LDLHS website.

A few others who are buried at Mickleham who have wartime connections are not all covered in the booklet but can be seen via the War Grave & Remembrances link on the left of your screen.
