Admiral Sir Francis Turner - 'the first officer of a non-executive
branch to reach the rank of full Admiral'

Lt George Francis Pauling MC, Grenadier Guards is not named on the Roll of Honour in St Lawrence Church nor is he among the plaques on the cross in the parish churchyard.
As ELHG puts it - 'perhaps because he was not regarded as being 'of' Effingham parish'. He was killed near Arras on March 25 1918, aged about 23.

He is commemorated by a stained glass window in the church of Our Lady of Sorrows - story
