P/O Trevor John Hood RAF, born at Cheam, Surrey on 6th January 1932, is also commemorated on the National Armed Forces Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas in Staffordshire.

Keith Hood wrote on 29 April 2009:

"My parents Ray and Constance Hood of Bodmin, Leatherhead Road, Ashtead were given special permission to place a stone flower holder on the War Memorial outside St George's in memory of their youngest son who was 21 years old when he was killed flying a Meteor jet plane for the RAF on May 19th 1953.

Trevor had been in the St Giles Church choir and at the City of London Freemen's School, Ashtead Park. He later attended the London School of Economics but always wanted to fly. He joined the London University Air Squadron and was killed during National Service. He is buried in Retford Road Cemetery, Worksop as are several members of his squadron.

My wife and I were married at St Giles in 1954 and my son, named Trevor after his uncle, lives in Ashtead. I am 80 years old and every year on Remembrance Day I or my grandchild lay a Poppy Wreath in memory of Trevor.

I was at the City of London Freemen's School 1938 to 1947 and knew quite a number of men listed on the Memorial."

From August 1952 to May 1958 RAF Worksop was the home of No.211 Advanced Flying School, which formed there with Gloster Meteor jets.

According to the ASN website on 19th May 1953 Gloster Meteor F.8 WK929 of 211 AFS dived into the ground out of cloud after take-off and initial climb out of RAF Worksop. The crash was 4.5 miles NW of Ollerton, Nottinghamshire. The pilot was killed and the aircraft, which was delivered to the unit on 11 Dec 1952, was written off, damaged beyond repair.
